Job Description:
Oil and Gas Land Company is looking for an experienced Oil and Gas Abstractor to work in our Traverse City office reviewing and preparing from on-line county court house records in various counties Abstracts of Title. Primary responsibilities will be as follows:
Responsibilities:
- Review abstracts of title as prepared by independent brokers for Quality and Completeness, who will be doing the following: Research courthouse computer systems, books, general indices, and tax assessment records to compile information pertaining to chain of title for a specific property. Copy recorded documents, such as leases, rights of ways, mortgages, judgments, and contracts affecting title to specific property.
- Prepare abstracts of title from online county records and at times in Michigan Counties
- Examine mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, leases, plat books, maps, contracts, and agreements as to legal description, ownership, restrictions, or conformity to requirements.
- Analyze information found to assist the client attorney's in determining the ownership of title of specific property.
- Assist client attorney's to determine issues that may need to be addressed prior to acquisition or drilling on a specific property.
- Identify opportunities for efficiency in the abstracting, best practices, including new and creative ways to measure abstracting effectiveness.
- Report to management.
Requirements:
- 5+ years real estate title experience with emphasis in Oil and Gas industry, abstracting, minimum of 3+ year's supervisory experience.
- Bachelors Degree and/or Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree preferred.
- Knowledge of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio oil and gas law relating to title and oil and gas operations required.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
